The district of Eichstaett is characterized by the Naturpark Altmuehltal, which is the second largest natural park in Germany, with more than 3,000 km². Million years and the work of powerful forces were necessary to create this impressive landscape. Today Altmuehltal Nature Park is particularly known as a paradise for hikers and cyclists.
Bavarian Jura – Nature and culture in perfect harmony.

The Bavarian Jura is named after the foothills of the European Jura Mountains and includes the magnificent valleys of the Danube, Altmühl, Laber, Lauterach, Vils and Naab. In addition to numerous holiday opportunities such as Boat hikes attract cultural highlights such as the Kelheim Liberation Hall and the Unesco World Heritage Center in Regensburg.
The Donaudurchbruch – a unique natural phenomenon

Probably in hardly any other holiday region will a visitor to such a great scenic variety meet here. Of wild beauty is the world of the Enge with the Donaudurchbruch. Because of its special importance, the nature reserve was the only one in Bavaria to be awarded the “Europadiplom”.
